What is a Doula is and how is Doula support is so beneficial to families choosing to birth their babies in any way. Whether you are giving birth vaginally or having a caesarean section. The key is support. I have had the honour to meet and work alongside Doula's in Grande Prairie over the past years and trust me when I say that birth is a part of their hearts. There is Doula for everyone. When you are searching and interviewing ask yourself, "What is it that you need in your support system?" Are you looking for a sister? A friend? A mother? A grandmother-like support person?

Please note I take 2-4 volunteer births in a fiscal year, if you are someone who want support but unable to afford it, fill out the "CONTACT" tab form and mention about your situation. If I am unable to help you I will bring it to another local Doula to help you.

Birth Doula

When I became a Doula, my heart reached to begin with birth. I loved being in labour, the thrill of change, the unknown. I am one of those people who need change in their lives. I will wake up one morning and change around all of the furniture in my house. It's that...or I tell my husband its time for another baby. I just so happen to have a practical and trained version of how to support families in time of labour and delivery. The mind has a way of forgetting trauma, and unhappy times. When I first became a Doula, my goal was to make it as memorable as possible. For when these women become mothers and grandmothers they will forever remember the beauty of giving birth. Along with the support; emotional, physical, and the informational   - I aim to preserve the memory. I keep a detailed timeline that I present to the parent after their birth.

Postpartum Doula

This is the ticket. This is when I truly decided I would officially become a Doula. My Dad wanted me to go to Uni to be a Midwife like my grandmother. I always knew that maybe I  would become similar in profession, something along the lines of birth keeper,  that something that I needed while I was having my children. With my son I needed a Birth Doula, with my daughter it was a new ballgame. I desperately needed a Postpartum Doula after the birth of my beautiful girl. It was a new experience, motherhood. I was already a mom but this was different. I experienced a delayed bond with my baby girl, I experienced postpartum depression with my second child, I experienced the need for help and didn't ask or seek it. If you are reading this and are already preparing for support while planning your birth, you are lovey! Thank you for putting your needs as a priority. If you are awake at 3AM rocking your colicky 8 week old to sleep and looking into a Postpartum Doula, you are lovely and strong. It is never too late to get the support you need.
