"Serenity was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and supportive throughout the entire birthing experience. She was a very calming influence and makes good cookies:) would recommend her to future moms."
Andrea & Jesse"Serenity was a big part of what was potentially the biggest day of my life. I have 4 perfect little boys, and Serenity was there to help the second two into this world, for which I couldn’t be more grateful. Serenity has been a friend of mine since shortly after I had my first child in 2011, but what the heck is a Doula?! Okay, I’ll admit, when Serenity first offered her Doula services to me, I politely declined because I really had no idea what the point really was. Jesse (my husband) and I had two children previously, and we did just fine through labour and delivery with them, so why would we need an extra person there?! I. GET. IT. NOW. First off, twins were a totally new ball game for us; it was the equivalent of a first pregnancy for us regardless of the fact that it was our third. My first two boys were born with no drugs, no interventions, and no complications. We were really hoping and praying that round three would be the same, and for the most part it was, thanks to Serenity (and the fact that there was a second baby, no big deal!).
The deal with our doctor was that I was able to try to deliver vaginally under two conditions: baby ‘A’ was head down, and that I would have an epidural in case baby ‘B’ tried any funny business such as flipping at the last minute resulting in a breech extraction. I was informed over and over that there was a pretty good chance that I would end up having a c-section for at least one of my babies. After every doctor appointment I was talking to Serenity almost immediately. She was full of information as to the how’s and whys the doctor told me what she did. She was always so reassuring and crazy knowledgeable about every topic that arose whether twin specific, or otherwise. As baby time got closer she continued to prove herself as a valuable resource, and I was getting more nervous about getting the vaginal, minimal intervention birth that I was really hoping for. I don’t remember what point it was that my husband and I decided that she should be there with us at the hospital, but it arose close to baby time as a request for her birth photography. We thought that we’d each have a baby to worry about and probably wouldn’t have much time (or brains) to take pictures of what was going on. Serenity was there with us from my induction at 39 weeks until the babies arrived. She totally knocked our socks off! She knew what my wishes were, and was there to remind the nurses and I, what they were, whether I was sticking to them or not. The nurses really appreciated the birth plan that she had graciously typed up for me the night before. She massaged my feet, knew exactly where to put pressure on my back when it felt like the babies were trying to escape there, and kept me in the loop with what was going on with my body, and with the nurses and doctors when I was distracted enough by labour to have no idea. She left me alone when I needed to just be alone, but somehow was still there when I didn’t want to be alone anymore, or needed something. She kept me calm when baby heart rates dropped with the epidural (no small feat) and took the most beautiful pictures of every stage of the day (how the heck do you hold two babies at once picture was my favourite ). She stayed with us into the night and made sure that the babies were happily nursing (she’s a nursing ninja!). My third labour and delivery was enhanced so much with her presence, and we are so grateful that she could be there with us. I had two beautiful, healthy baby boys vaginally, 4 mins apart with only an epidural and no other interventions. My husband put it into words perfectly “I love her heart”. We really do! Not only do we have beautiful memories of the day, we have extraordinary pictures that she combined into an album for us to remember the day by. We even received a detailed timeline of the day, which was really neat to read through, because so much gets missed and forgotten when you’re in the moment. Thank you Serenity, from the bottom of our hearts. Emmett and Raylan thank you as well for the best start possible, and so do big brothers Ethan and Wyatt for getting their new baby brothers here safely!" |

"Im proud to be serenitys first doula experience! Serenity was amazing from start to finish. I asked infinite questions and she would take the time to research and answer every single one. She wrote my birth plan with me and helped me make informed decisions about my birth and new baby. She made herself available when I went for many stress tests. Before I went into labour she came to an ultrasound and a stress test. We then walked the mall many many times. She spent all day with me! I started labour that night and came to my house right away. I laboured at home with her for some time and then we went to the hospital. I wanted to have a vbac. Serenity went over my birth plan with the nurses. I could not have gone through it with them because my labour was so intense! I was so scared and basically the devil in labour. Serenity was so calm and encouraging. We did different labouring positions and on my knees worked best. This was something I never did during my first birth. I did get the epidural. While I was sleeping serenity rubbed my legs for 4 hours! When it came time to push she kept me focused. I made every contraction count with her by my side. I only pushed for 1 hour. She helped me shower after and helped me try to breastfeed. In a few days she came to visit me at home. She baked me lactation cookies and brought the baby gifts! The cookies were amazing smile emoticon she came to my hone again as I was struggling with breastfeeding. We tried different holds and positioning. I felt like I was able to do it with all the knowledge she gave me. I was so happy with my birthing experience and proud of my successful vbac. I couldn't have done it without her. I made informed decisions and was in control of my birthing experience with her help. She is very passionate and understanding. I hope to be able to use serenity for my third baby when that time comes! Thank you for everything!!"

"Serenity was such a wealth of information during my pregnancy with my first little one. She was always available to talk, to get together, and to help plan what we ideally wanted for our first birthing experience. Later on, we found out we would be having a caesarean, and Serenity helped us come to terms with that as well. Even though she wasn't able to help or attend with the birth, she was there for my husband and daughter while I was in recovery, and for me and my new family once I returned to the room with them. She was wonderful for all the postpartum stuff I went through, and once again, had much advice and information to share. She was a wonderful resource"

"Serenity was amazing and I'm very happy I found her! She was very respectable of my wishes being a first time mom all of this is new to me and having her by my side made everything a lot less scary and way more enjoyable! She made an amazing photo book of my birth it was absolutely perfect! I would without a doubt have her as my doula again when the time comes!"

"Serenity provides an invaluable service and I am so glad we decided to make her part of our birth experience. Even though I was having my second child I still had some questions and Serenity was able to help me find answers to them all. My birth required some interventions and because I was overdue and induced the intensity of my labour made it difficult to process everything that was happening. Serenity provided information that enabled me to make the best decisions for me and my baby and she helped throughout the whole labouring process, providing assistance to me and to my partner. After our little guy finally arrived Serenity stayed to help me with getting cleaned up and settled into my room for the night. She made what could have been a scary situation into one that was manageable and for that I am so grateful. The care she provided extended past the day of our son's birth into the coming weeks when she dropped off the most amazing cookies (lactation cookies) I have ever eaten (and they definitely helped my milk come in) and came by to visit and snuggle the baby. She's even checked up on us a few times to see how we're doing. I am so thankful to have had Serenity be a part of our baby's birth."

"When I first moved back to Grande Prairie I was really disappointed to find out the hospital had a dry birthing policy and that there are currently no practicing midwives. After some inquiring someone suggested a doula to us which was the best thing that could have happened. We came across Serenity and immediately knew she was the one! Our meetings with her were reassuring, informative and quite xciting. She has a level of calmness to her that we found very comforting in such a scary but beautiful time. As this was our first pregnancy we had no expectations or any idea how things would pan out but we did know we could count on her to be there whenever we had a question or concern, (I still bother her). Not only was she like the big sister I never had but she was also there to comfort my husband during my long exhausting labour. I can honestly say I don't know if either of us could have made it without her presence. Although I have nothing to compare my experience to, I would never think to have another baby without Serenity. Not only did we walk away with a perfect little human, we also gained a life long friend and for that we are beyond thankful! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. heart emoticone...xciting.
